About this tour
The best of East Java in one trip. Day one is the colourful Jodipan village in Malang; day two takes you down to Tumpak Sewu, the "thousand waterfalls" at around 120 m, and Goa Tetes. Day three is the Bromo sunrise from Mount Penanjakan, and on day four you hike Ijen at midnight for the blue fire before we drop you at Ketapang harbour, ferry ticket to Bali included. English-speaking guide throughout, 3 hotel nights with breakfast.

Pickup in Surabaya, drive to Malang
Your driver picks you up anywhere in Surabaya city; about 2 hours to Malang.

Jodipan Colourful Village, Malang
A riverside neighbourhood painted in every colour — Malang's best-known photo spot. Then free time in the city centre.

Drive to Lumajang & check in
About 2.5 hours to the Lumajang area and check-in at the accommodation we have booked for you.

Coban Kapas Biru (weather permitting)
If the weather is good, visit Coban Kapas Biru waterfall. Free time afterwards.

Breakfast, then to Tumpak Sewu
After breakfast, about 15 minutes to Tumpak Sewu waterfall.

Tumpak Sewu waterfall & Goa Tetes
Your guide takes you to the Tumpak Sewu panorama point first, then down to the base of the falls. The path is rough and includes a bamboo ladder of about 15 m — the guide will help. Continue to Goa Tetes, then return the same way. Water flow varies with the season.

Lunch, then on to Cemorolawang
Back at the car park, lunch (own expense), then the drive to Cemorolawang village below Bromo.

Arrive at your Cemorolawang hotel in the early evening. Turn in early for tomorrow's sunrise.

Jeep up to Mount Penanjakan
After a hot coffee, the 4WD Jeep climbs for about 50 minutes to Mount Penanjakan. It is 0–10 °C at the top — dress warmly.

With local snacks, coffee and tea, watch the Bromo massif appear in the morning light.

Sea of Sand, Bromo crater & savanna
The Jeep crosses the black Sea of Sand, you walk about 45 minutes to the crater rim, then visit the savanna. Horses available (own expense).

Back to the hotel for breakfast and check-out.

Over Arak-Arak hill to Bondowoso
Switch to the private car for the winding road to Bondowoso, with lunch at a scenic stop (own expense); check in around 15:00.

Midnight drive to Paltuding
About 1.5–2 hours to Paltuding, where your local guide and gas mask are waiting.

Ijen crater · blue fire · sunrise
At least an hour up to the rim, then down into the crater for the blue fire (fit hikers only). After sunrise, enjoy the acid lake panorama and the miners carrying ~80 kg of sulphur.

Breakfast & coffee break
After the descent, breakfast and coffee. Time permitting, visit the sulphur processing plant in Licin village.

Coffee factory, waterfall, Ketapang harbour
Stops at a coffee factory and a waterfall, reaching Ketapang harbour around 11:00–12:00. Ferry to Bali included, arriving around 15:00 Bali time.
